1. What TipOffly does
TipOffly is a safety app. It looks out for scam messages, risky links and people who might want to harm you online. Your parent or guardian set it up because they care about you, and they had to prove who they are and agree to it first. That's the law in India for anyone under 18.
TipOffly is never hidden. You can always see that it's on, and you can open the "What my parent sees" screen at any time.
2. What your grown-up sees
- The type of risk, like "possible bullying" or "stranger contact"
- Which app it happened in, and when
- How long you spent on each app, and when bedtime starts
- That you arrived at places you both agreed on, like school or tuition, if location is switched on
- How many steps you took each day, but only if they asked and you said yes
If you're a teen, your grown-up only gets the serious alerts, nothing else.
Steps are your choice. Your phone only counts them if your grown-up asks and you say yes, and Android asks you for Physical activity first. Your grown-up gets one number per day for the last 7 days, locked so that only their phone can read it. They never see when you walked or where you went. You can stop any time on the Daily steps screen, and your phone deletes the numbers at once. They're also deleted after 30 days, when your grown-up's permission ends, or where steps are switched off in your country.
In some countries, India included, TipOffly doesn't count how your chats feel (happy, okay or upset), so your grown-up never sees that. Where it's allowed and your grown-up asks for it, they only get the numbers, never your words. If it's switched off in your grown-up's country, their phone tells yours to stop and deletes what it already got, and your phone deletes its counts too. Until their phone next connects, yours may keep counting for a little while.
3. What stays yours
- Your messages and chats
- Your photos and videos
- Your contacts' names, unless you share them
- The websites you visit
TipOffly checks things on your phone. Your messages, photos and contacts are never sent to us.
4. What we keep
We keep as little as we can. On our servers, in India, we keep your name, which family you're in, and short alerts like "possible stranger contact" with a time. We never keep the message itself.
- Places you've been are deleted after 7 days
- Alerts are deleted after 30 days
- Step numbers never reach us. They stay on your phone and your grown-up's for 30 days at most
- Everything else is deleted when your family account closes
5. What we never do
- We never sell anything about you
- We never show you ads or build an ad profile of you
- We never track you for anything except the safety features your grown-up switched on
6. What you can do
- Look at "What my parent sees" in the app whenever you like
- Talk to your grown-up if something feels unfair. They can change what's shared
- Ask us what we know about you, or ask us to fix or delete it, with your grown-up's help
- Write to us yourself at privacy@tipoffly.com if you're worried about anything
When you turn 18, we check again, and from then on you decide for yourself what to share.
7. Need help?
If someone online is scaring you, asking for photos or asking you to keep secrets, tell an adult you trust straight away. You can also call Childline on 1098, any time, for free. If money was taken by a scam, call 1930.
